The Edmonton Oilers are parting ways with an important off-season acquisition.
On Sunday, the team revealed that forward Andrew Mangiapane and defenceman Alec Regula were both placed on waivers.
In addition, Robby Fabbri from the St. Louis Blues, Luke Kunin from the Florida Panthers, and Guillaume Brisebois from the Vancouver Canucks were also placed on waivers by their teams.
However, it is Andrew Mangiapane who stands out the most on the list.
The winger inked a two-year contract worth $7.2 million with the Oilers on July 1, aiming to enhance the offensive lineup behind stars like Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
Things haven’t gone well for Mangiapane this season, as he has only managed seven goals and seven assists over 52 games, resulting in a career-low plus/minus rating of -19, while also facing several healthy scratches. The player from Toronto is currently in his ninth season in the NHL, having previously recorded three seasons with at least 20 goals.
Standing at five feet ten inches and weighing 183 pounds, Andrew Mangiapane was selected in the sixth round as the 166th overall pick by the Calgary Flames during the 2015 NHL draft. Throughout his career, he has accumulated 257 points (130 goals and 127 assists) over 550 games, having also played for both Calgary and Washington.
In his inaugural season with the Oilers, Regula has faced challenges, recording only three assists and a minus-16 rating over 29 games. He has recently been assigned to the AHL for a conditioning period.
Fabbri, 30, has recorded only one goal and three assists over 15 matches with the Blues.
Andrew Mangiapane has played in 44 matches with the Panthers, tallying two goals along with two assists.
Brisebois has yet to participate in any games with the Canucks during this season.
