A major drug bust in Cornwall has resulted in 13 arrests and the seizure of over $4.1 million worth of illegal substances, highlighting ongoing issues with drug trafficking.

A significant drug bust in Cornwall and Montreal has led to the arrest of 13 individuals and the seizure of over $4.1 million in illegal substances. The operation, executed on April 16, targeted four independent criminal networks involved in drug trafficking.

The investigation began last November, revealing a troubling landscape of illegal activities in both cities. Police executed search warrants at three residences in Cornwall and four in Montreal, resulting in substantial seizures.

Key seizures include:

  • 20 kilograms of suspected fentanyl
  • 14 kilograms of suspected cocaine
  • 80,000 counterfeit prescription tablets

This coordinated effort involved the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau and the Provincial Operations Intelligence Bureau. Authorities charged a total of 115 offenses against those arrested.

Among those charged is Tyler Bertrand, a 24-year-old from Cornwall, who faces serious allegations including trafficking fentanyl and possession of property obtained through crime. The impact of this operation extends beyond just drug trafficking; it highlights ongoing community concerns about safety and crime.

In addition to this major bust, Cornwall has seen various other criminal activities recently. A 53-year-old man was charged with sexual assault, while a 47-year-old woman faced charges for shoplifting on May 1.

The community is left grappling with these developments as authorities continue their efforts to combat crime. While the police have made significant strides, residents are wary about what these events mean for their safety moving forward.
