In response to a rise in ride disruptions, Disneyland Resort has implemented new rules aimed at enhancing ride safety and improving the overall guest experience. Located in Anaheim, California, this iconic destination is taking significant steps to ensure that visitors can fully enjoy their time at the park.
As of fiscal year 2025, guest behavior accounted for 13% of all ride shutdowns, an increase from a historical average of 10%. This change prompted Disneyland to tighten its regulations regarding phone usage and other personal items on rides.
New Disneyland rules include:
- The phone policy, known as “Stow it, Don’t Show it,” requires guests to secure their phones in bags or pockets before boarding rides.
- Handheld filming is prohibited on high-motion rides to prevent distractions and ensure safety.
- A ban on selfie sticks and other loose items that could interfere with ride operations has been enforced.
- Bag checks at entry points have become more thorough, with deeper inspections for restricted items.
- The resort now utilizes facial recognition technology at entry gates to facilitate re-entry and curb fraud.
These measures are designed not only to protect guests but also to enhance their enjoyment. One visitor expressed, “I do not want to spend time on my phone when I am at ‘The Most Magical Place on Earth.’ I want to be in my happy place.” This sentiment reflects the desire of many guests for a more immersive experience.
In addition to these changes, Disneyland continues its commitment to community support through initiatives like Make-A-Wish events. Recently, Disney’s Wishes Assemble event granted nearly 40 wishes to children battling critical illnesses. Leslie Motter from Make-A-Wish stated, “Something truly special happens when communities come together with one shared vision: to bring joy to wish kids in ways that surpass even their greatest imagination.” The smiles on those children’s faces when their wish comes to life — there’s nothing like it.
The introduction of these new rules signifies Disneyland’s ongoing effort to maintain its reputation as a safe and enjoyable destination for families. As they adapt to changing circumstances, the park remains focused on providing memorable experiences for all visitors.
