The Edmonton Oilers are set to begin their 2026-27 NHL season with a home-and-home series against the Vancouver Canucks. The first game will be played on September 29, followed by another on October 1. This marks the start of an expanded 84-game regular-season schedule, which was announced on Thursday.
The opening month will feature another home-and-home series for the Oilers, this time against the Utah Mammoth on October 15 and 17. Following these matchups, the team will host the Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes at Rogers Place on October 22, as part of their initial extended homestand of the campaign.
Key Matchups and Homestands
The early homestand for Edmonton includes several notable games. They will face the Toronto Maple Leafs on October 24, followed by the first Battle of Alberta against the Calgary Flames on October 28. Additional games during this period include contests against the Detroit Red Wings on October 26 and the Minnesota Wild on October 20.
The longest homestand of the season for the Oilers will span eight games, divided by the All-Star Break in January and February. This segment of the schedule will feature significant matchups against teams such as the Montreal Canadiens on January 30, the Pittsburgh Penguins on February 13, and the Boston Bruins on February 19.
The team will also embark on two separate extended road trips, each consisting of six games. These trips are scheduled for November and then again in late December and early January. Their annual visit to New York will see them play the New York Islanders on October 31 and the New York Rangers on November 1 in a back-to-back set, concluding with a game against the New Jersey Devils on November 3.
The final stretch of the regular season will see the Oilers play 12 of their last 19 games against Pacific Division rivals. This includes three games against the Calgary Flames, with their last visit to Scotiabank Saddledome on March 23.
