History Ottawa will open a new music venue in August 2026, aiming to revitalize Ottawa's entertainment district with a range of performances.

The upcoming opening of History Ottawa’s new music venue is poised to significantly impact the local entertainment landscape. Scheduled to debut on August 20, 2026, at 47 Rideau St., this venue will offer a capacity of 2,000 seats, providing a much-needed space for live performances in the city.

The inaugural performance will feature the renowned band The Wallflowers, setting the stage for a vibrant lineup that includes acts like Kaleo, The Pretty Reckless, and Sabaton. This expansion follows the successful launch of History Ottawa’s Toronto location in 2021, reflecting a growing demand for mid-size venues in the region.

Bronwyn Campbell, who previously managed the Commodore Ballroom for 11 years, has been appointed as the general manager of the new venue. “I’m thrilled to be leading the History Ottawa team,” she expressed, highlighting her enthusiasm for the project. Alongside her, Rob Feller, with 12 years of experience in the live music industry, will serve as the senior operations manager.

History Ottawa is expected to host approximately 150 events annually, creating around 300 full- and part-time jobs in the community. This initiative is part of a broader effort to revitalize Ottawa’s entertainment district, with Ali Shafaee stating, “We thought that the only way to be able to do that is to build a mid-size venue in Ottawa.”

The venue aims to bring a “reimagination” of the ByWard Market, enhancing the cultural fabric of the area and providing local residents with more entertainment options. The anticipation surrounding this project reflects the community’s eagerness for a dynamic space that fosters creativity and connection.

As the opening date approaches, the excitement continues to build. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full lineup of artists and specific event dates, but the community is hopeful for a diverse range of performances that cater to various musical tastes.
