nifty 50 — CA news
The Nifty 50 index has seen a notable decline, reflecting broader market instability driven by rising crude oil prices and geopolitical tensions.

Nifty 50 Experiences Significant Drop

The Nifty 50 index fell up to 3.07% to an intraday low of 23,697.80 points, reflecting a significant impact on investor sentiment amid rising geopolitical tensions. The S&P BSE Sensex also experienced a notable decline, dropping as much as 3.16% or 2,494.35 points to 76,424.55 points.

Almost all Nifty 500 companies are trading in the red, with the Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices down about 1.8% each. This downturn has resulted in approximately ₹12 lakh crore in investor wealth being wiped out.

The surge in Brent crude oil prices, which have tested $120 per barrel, has been a significant factor contributing to this market volatility. Analysts warn that big oil importers like India will be hit hard if the Iran war lingers and crude prices remain elevated, as noted by V.K. Vijayakumar.

As the Nifty opened with a wide gap-down at 23,871.85, it is currently trading at 23,740. The Nifty 50 March Futures are down 2.78%, indicating continued pressure on the index.

Support for the Nifty is around 23,750, which may be tested during the day. Market participants are advised to closely monitor the price action around this level.

The India VIX surged over 20% to its highest level since July 2024, reflecting increased market anxiety. The conflict has already dragged both the Nifty 50 and the S&P BSE Sensex down 2.9% last week.

Market analysts suggest that the downside at 24,300/78,800 would act as an immediate support zone for traders, according to Amol Athawale. Vinit Bolinjkar expects high volatility to persist, favoring domestically-insulated sectors like Capital Goods and Consumer Durables.

Given the current volatility and the presence of support, some analysts recommend that traders stay out of the market today. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the potential recovery or further declines in the Nifty 50.
