solde carte crédit desjardins petition — CA news
A petition has emerged in response to Desjardins' recent change in credit card balance display, amassing over 9,000 signatures as users express frustration.

Before the recent changes, Desjardins customers enjoyed real-time updates of their credit card balances through the AccèsD app. This feature allowed users to see immediate changes after making payments, providing a sense of control and clarity over their finances.

However, a significant shift occurred when Desjardins announced a new processing system that removed the real-time balance display. Now, customers face a delay of 24 to 48 hours for balance updates, which has led to widespread dissatisfaction.

In response to this abrupt change, a petition was launched demanding the return of the real-time balance feature. By Tuesday, over 9,000 signatures had been collected, highlighting the strong community sentiment against the new system.

Jean-Benoît Turcotti, a spokesperson for Desjardins, explained that the transition to a new processing system was necessary and that the previous display of balances could not be reinstated. He noted, “We must transfer credit card processing to a new system, based on industry components that we cannot modify. We therefore cannot return to the previous display.”

The new balance display only shows officially billed amounts and excludes pending transactions, which has frustrated users who expect to see their balances reflect their current financial situation. As one user, Audrey-Anne Simard, expressed, “When I pay my credit card, I want to see the balance at 0 right away, I don’t want to wait 24 hours — we’re not in 1900.”

The petition gained traction particularly through social media platforms like TikTok, where videos related to the issue have garnered over 325,000 views. Users have shared their frustrations, amplifying the call for change.

Desjardins claims that this change aligns with practices at most other financial institutions in Canada, yet many customers feel that the new system creates confusion and increases the risk of overdrawing their accounts. As one expert noted, “The solde affiché ne reflète plus la réalité immédiate, ce qui peut créer de la confusion et augmenter les risques de dépassement.”

As the petition continues to grow, it reflects a community united in its desire for transparency and immediacy in financial transactions. The outcome of this movement remains to be seen, but it has certainly sparked a conversation about customer rights in the digital banking landscape.
