The numbers
Good Friday, observed on April 3, 2023, is a statutory holiday in Prince Edward Island, leading to numerous closures across the province. While many businesses and government offices will be closed, some local shops will remain open, providing essential services to the community.
All provincial government offices, including Access P.E.I. locations and public libraries, will be closed for the day. Canada Post will not be delivering or collecting mail, and all post offices are also closed. This means residents should plan ahead for any postal needs, as there will be no mail service on this day.
City halls in Charlottetown and Summerside will not be open, and T3 Transit will not operate, affecting public transportation options for those who rely on it. Additionally, the Island Waste Management Corporation will not be collecting garbage, with the next scheduled collection on April 4. Residents are reminded to hold onto their waste until then.
In terms of retail, P.E.I. liquor and cannabis stores will be closed, along with Sobeys locations across the province. The Foodland store in Charlottetown will also be closed, and Walmart locations in both Charlottetown and Summerside will not be operating on Good Friday.
However, not all is closed. Brighton Clover Farm in Charlottetown will be open until 6 p.m., providing a grocery option for those in need of essentials. Additionally, Kensington Food Basket and Panda Mart in Charlottetown will operate during their regular hours, offering a chance for residents to pick up necessary items.
As the community observes Good Friday, it’s important to note the significance of this day in the Christian calendar, marking the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. This solemn occasion often leads to various traditions and reflections within the community.
As the day progresses, residents are encouraged to check local listings for any last-minute changes to store hours or services. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any additional openings or closures that may arise as the holiday unfolds.
