What Happened
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced a recall warning for Kendamil brand infant formula with whole milk sold at Costco Canada. The recall was initiated due to the presence of cereulide toxin, which is produced by certain strains of Bacillus cereus.
Why It Matters
Cereulide toxin can lead to gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. It is highly heat stable, meaning it cannot be eliminated through cooking or preparation. Although there have been no reported illnesses linked to the consumption of this product, the CFIA has advised consumers to take precautions.
What’s Next
Consumers who may have purchased the affected Kendamil infant formula are urged to check the UPC code on the container. The CFIA recommends that individuals who suspect they have consumed the recalled product contact their healthcare provider. Additionally, consumers should not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute the recalled products, and they should either dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase.
