IPL 2026 Season Kicks Off

“Snap is the place where real-time chatter around cricket happens. We bring the banter to the broadcast,” said Yagnesh Ravi, highlighting the evolving landscape of cricket viewership.

The IPL 2026 season is scheduled to commence on March 28 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, a venue that will also host key matches, including the final. Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are gearing up to reclaim their title.

In a notable shift, the 2025 season saw digital platforms surpass television in viewership for the first time, drawing 652 million viewers online compared to 537 million on TV. This trend reflects a significant evolution in how fans engage with the sport.

Yagnesh Ravi further emphasized the importance of instant reactions during matches, stating, “When someone takes a great catch or hits a big six, people want to react instantly, ‘What a shot!’ or ‘That was unbelievable.’ Those spontaneous reactions happen on Snap.” This illustrates the growing role of social media in enhancing the viewing experience.

With over 1 billion viewers across TV and digital platforms, the IPL continues to attract a massive audience. Notably, about 85% of Gen Z in India actively follows cricket, indicating a strong generational connection to the sport.

Additionally, Snapchat boasts over 250 million users in India, with a significant portion under the age of 32, making it a key player in cricket-related engagement. Ravi noted, “Attention has four times higher correlation with brand recall compared to metrics like video completion rate,” underscoring the effectiveness of digital interactions.

RCB will also play two home games in Raipur, expanding their reach and fan engagement. The combination of traditional and digital platforms is expected to enhance the overall IPL experience for fans.

As the tournament approaches, the anticipation builds around how RCB will perform and whether they can successfully defend their title. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any additional changes to the tournament structure or broadcasting methods.

With the IPL’s growing popularity and the integration of digital platforms, the 2026 season promises to be a landmark event in the cricketing calendar.
