Jannik Sinner continues strong performance at Indian Wells
Jannik Sinner defeated Dalibor Svrcina 6-1, 6-1 in the second round at Indian Wells, California, marking another significant step in his campaign for the title.
The match lasted just 64 minutes, during which Sinner displayed exceptional form, winning 81% of points on his first serve and 75% on his second. He also saved the only break point he faced, demonstrating his dominance on the court.
As the second seed at the BNP Paribas Open, Sinner is aiming for his first title at Indian Wells, having previously reached the semi-finals in both 2023 and 2024. This victory improves his season record to 8-2, highlighting his strong start to the year.
Sinner is now five victories shy of achieving his 100th ATP Masters 1000 match win, a milestone that underscores his growing presence in the sport. His next challenge will be against Denis Shapovalov, with whom he is currently tied at 1-1 in their head-to-head series.
Reflecting on his performance, Sinner stated, “I feel mentally I’m in a good place,” indicating his confidence as he progresses through the tournament. He also noted the extensive preparation he has undergone, saying, “We did a lot of work. Many, many hours on court. Many hours in the gym. I’m trying to get a little bit stronger (physically).”
Despite two losses on hard courts in 2025, including a defeat to Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open semifinals, Sinner’s hard court record prior to these losses stood at an impressive 39-3.
“The season (has been) good. We try to maximize our potential,” Sinner added, emphasizing his commitment to improving his game as he aims for greater success.
As he prepares for his upcoming match against Shapovalov, Sinner remains focused on maintaining his form and continuing his pursuit of the Indian Wells title.
With his current trajectory, Sinner is poised to make a significant impact in the tournament, and fans will be eager to see how he performs in the next round.
