kendamil infant formula recall — CA news
The CFIA has recalled Kendamil infant formula due to the presence of cereulide toxin, which can cause food poisoning. No illnesses have been reported.

What Happened

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced a recall of Kendamil brand infant formula sold online and at Costco. The recall affects one-kilogram containers labeled “with whole milk” due to concerns over the presence of cereulide toxin, which can lead to food poisoning.

Why It Matters

Cereulide toxin is produced by certain strains of Bacillus cereus and is known for its heat stability, meaning it can survive cooking temperatures that would typically kill harmful bacteria. Symptoms of cereulide ingestion can manifest rapidly, often resulting in nausea and vomiting. Although no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall, the CFIA has advised consumers against using, selling, or distributing the affected products.

What’s Next

The CFIA has identified specific batches of the formula that are affected, produced in May 2025, with lot numbers 897274 and 888632. Consumers are urged to check their products and refrain from consumption. This recall follows similar actions taken by Nestlé and Danone due to potential contamination with the same toxin. Kendal Nutricare, the manufacturer, has indicated that the issue arose from a temporary supply disruption that led to the use of a different oil source in the affected batches.
