Stock Shortages and Price Increases for Pokémon Pokopia
The recent release of Pokémon Pokopia for the Nintendo Switch has led to significant stock shortages and price hikes, particularly for physical editions in the United States. The game’s physical edition is now priced at $80 on Amazon due to stock constraints, while the recommended retail price for a digital download is set at $70.
Major retailers, including Walmart, GameStop, and Target, have reported being sold out of Pokémon Pokopia boxed copies. This scarcity has raised concerns among fans and retailers alike, as numerous outlets have run out of stock.
Notably, Pokémon Pokopia is the first exclusive Pokémon entry for the Switch 2, and it was released as a Game Key Card. This launch strategy may have been intended to encourage more digital sales, but it has resulted in limited physical copies available outside the U.S.
In the UK, retail sales of Pokémon Pokopia have been disappointing, with figures reported to be less than half of last year’s Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Christopher Dring noted that Pokémon Pokopia’s physical sales were not even half of what Legends: Z-A managed on Switch 2 last year.
Despite the challenges, reviews have highlighted Pokémon Pokopia as a promising addition to the Pokémon franchise. VGC described it as “an excellent life simulation game that takes the best bits from the champions of the genre and evolves into something that Pokémon fans and cozy game fans will love.”
Details remain unconfirmed regarding Nintendo’s intention behind keeping physical stock low, leaving many to speculate about the company’s strategy moving forward. As the situation develops, fans and retailers will be watching closely for any updates on availability and sales performance.
