International Women’s Day 2026 Events Announced
International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on March 8, will be marked in 2026 with significant events including a concert and a community gathering. The theme for this year is “Give To Gain,” emphasizing the importance of supporting women’s initiatives.
The Three Oaks Foundation is hosting an event on March 6, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., aimed at fostering community engagement and awareness around women’s issues. This event is expected to attract a diverse audience, highlighting the ongoing efforts to promote gender equality.
On the day of International Women’s Day, a concert titled Frauenleben: Love, Labour & Lullabies will take place at the Desautels Concert Hall at the University of Manitoba, starting at 2 p.m.. This concert will celebrate the contributions of female composers, featuring works by Clara Schumann and Amy Beach.
Monica Huisman, one of the performers, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We could do a concert that could last forever and ever and ever.” This sentiment reflects the rich legacy of women in music and the importance of showcasing their work.
Laura Loewen, another faculty member involved in the concert, remarked, “One of the great things about working at a university is the amazing colleagues that you have.” She also emphasized the significance of exploring diverse musical backgrounds, saying, “I think it’s a really important thing in your development as a musician to be exploring this music from as many different places as you possibly can.”
The concert will also feature performances from the faculty’s jazz department, further enriching the celebration of women’s contributions to the arts.
International Women’s Day has been celebrated for more than 100 years, serving as a platform for advocating women’s rights and achievements across various fields. The events planned for 2026 aim to continue this tradition, fostering dialogue and appreciation for women’s roles in society.
As the date approaches, observers are eager to see how these events will unfold and what impact they will have on the community. Details remain unconfirmed regarding additional activities or speakers that may be included in the celebrations.
