yellow advisory - frost — CA news
A late-April cold snap has prompted a yellow-level frost advisory across Toronto and the GTA, leading residents to take precautions for their plants.

A late-April cold snap has led to a yellow-level frost advisory across Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), prompting residents to take precautions for their plants. Environment Canada issued the advisory early Thursday morning, warning that temperatures could dip near or below freezing overnight into Friday.

This yellow-level frost advisory covers a wide stretch of southern Ontario, impacting municipalities such as Hamilton, Mississauga, Brampton, Durham Region, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, and Markham. Residents are urged to cover vulnerable plants or bring potted ones indoors, especially in frost-prone or low-lying areas where temperatures can drop more quickly.

Jessie Uppal from Environment Canada noted, “Typically, we still experience frost through the last week of April and first week of May.” This year is no exception as patchy frost is likely to form under clearing skies and cold overnight air.

The weather forecast indicates that Thursday’s high temperature will only reach 11°C with scattered showers expected. On Friday, the high will be around 10°C with a low of about 1°C and even potential flurries.

The frost advisory was officially issued at 9:10 a.m. on Thursday. As we head into May, many in the region are bracing for a chilly start with daytime highs struggling to reach the low teens. Residents are reminded to stay vigilant as these late-season frosts can be damaging to gardens and outdoor plants.
