Céline Galipeau, a respected journalist with a long history at Radio-Canada, will step away from her role as host of Le téléjournal after 18 years. She is set to lead a new international news program beginning in the fall of 2026.
Galipeau’s decision reflects her desire for deeper engagement with complex global issues. “Ce nouveau défi vient combler un désir que j’avais depuis longtemps, celui de piloter un magazine d’actualité internationale et de pouvoir prendre le temps d’expliquer les questions complexes,” she shared. The new program aims to provide in-depth coverage and feature discussions with experts on pressing international topics.
Having joined Radio-Canada in 1984, Galipeau has spent 14 years as a correspondent. She made history in 2008 by becoming the first woman to host Le téléjournal, taking over from Bernard Derome. Her last broadcast on the show will be on June 18, 2026.
Throughout her career, Galipeau has reported on significant events such as the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and the COVID-19 pandemic. “Je me souviens encore de ce moment-là, où on se disait : “C’est pas possible que la Russie attaque l’Ukraine”,” she recalled, highlighting the gravity of her reporting.
