What Happened
Texas country music singer Charley Crockett has officially canceled the Canadian leg of his tour, which included performances in cities such as Saskatoon, Winnipeg, and Toronto. The decision follows his denial of entry into Canada due to a past felony drug conviction.
Why It Matters
Crockett was scheduled to perform at Saskatoon’s TCU Place on Wednesday, among other venues, but was turned away at the border. He attempted to enter Canada via Vancouver and Kelowna, B.C., but was denied under section 44(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Act because of his 2016 conviction for felony possession and trafficking of marijuana. In an Instagram post, Crockett expressed his disappointment, stating, “Everybody’s got a past. Mine’s still haunting me.”
What’s Next
Following the cancellation, Crockett has expressed his regret to fans, stating, “I know I let y’all down.” He has previously toured Canada and was looking forward to performing for his Canadian fans. The singer has indicated that he hopes to return to Canada in the future, despite the current setback.
