Colton Dach Joins Edmonton Oilers
“I think the part I love about Colton’s game is his energy and his style of play,” said a representative from the Oilers, highlighting the attributes that made Dach an appealing acquisition.
Colton Dach, a 23-year-old forward, has been traded to the Edmonton Oilers from the Chicago Blackhawks. Drafted 62nd overall by the Blackhawks in 2021, Dach has made a name for himself with his physical play and energy on the ice.
This season, Dach has recorded three goals and nine points in 53 NHL games, while also laying 189 hits, ranking him 10th in the league. His size, at 6-foot-4 and 218 pounds, adds a significant physical presence to the Oilers’ lineup.
In the trade, the Oilers also acquired Jason Dickinson, who has six goals and 13 points in 47 games this season. Dickinson is expected to slot in as Edmonton’s third-line center, taking on a checking role against opposing teams’ top players. Blackhawks coach Jeff Blashill noted, “He’s definitely taken on a good spot of responsibility in terms of a lot of times he’s out there against the other team’s really good players.”
The Blackhawks retained 50 percent of Dickinson’s $4.25 million cap hit, making the trade more manageable for the Oilers. In exchange for Dach and Dickinson, the Oilers sent Andrew Mangiapane and a conditional 2027 first-round pick to Chicago.
Dach’s previous experience includes playing junior hockey with the Saskatoon Blades, Kelowna Rockets, and Seattle Thunderbirds, where he won the Ed Chynoweth Cup in 2023. His transition to the Oilers marks a new chapter in his career.
As the Oilers look to strengthen their roster, Dach’s physical style and scoring ability will be crucial as they aim for success in the upcoming games. His addition is expected to bring a fresh dynamic to the team.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact timeline for Dach’s debut with the Oilers, but fans are eager to see how he will integrate into the team’s strategy moving forward.
