Local Representation at the Forefront
“The people of Dawson Trail deserve a voice that answers only to them,” stated Bob Lagassé, who has announced his intention to run for re-election as an Independent in Dawson Trail. Lagassé’s commitment to prioritizing local needs over party directives resonates with many residents as they prepare for the upcoming 44th General Election, scheduled for on or before October 5, 2027.
In his campaign, Lagassé emphasizes the importance of addressing key concerns such as infrastructure, economic development, public safety, and community health. He believes that responsible economic development can create opportunities for local families and businesses, but it must be executed with the confidence of the community.
“Responsible economic development can create opportunities for local families and businesses, but it must be done the right way and with the confidence of the people who live here,” he added, highlighting the need for collaboration across party lines to benefit the region.
Meanwhile, in Dawson Creek, a new flag design has been adopted, featuring a silhouetted signpost inside a stylized grain elevator. This decision came after councillors voted 5-2 in favor of the design, which had been granted by the Canadian Heraldic Authority in 2008 but had never been utilized until now.
Mayor Darcy Dober commented on the significance of the new flag, stating, “Formalizing the official flag ensures future councils and staff are clear which flag is correct.” This move is seen as a step towards solidifying the city’s identity.
However, not all councillors were in favor of the change. Councillor Charlie Parslow expressed his reservations, saying, “It just seems so naked,” reflecting concerns about the flag’s design and its representation of the community.
As Dawson Trail residents gear up for the election, the focus remains on ensuring that their voices are heard and that their priorities are addressed effectively. The upcoming election presents an opportunity for residents to influence the direction of their community.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the specific initiatives Lagassé plans to implement if re-elected, but his commitment to local representation is clear. The community’s response to his candidacy and the new flag in Dawson Creek will likely shape the discussions leading up to the election.
