Disney Cruise Line Announces Robert Downey Jr. as Godfather of the New croisière Adventure
Disney Cruise Line has officially announced that Oscar-winning actor Robert Downey Jr. will serve as the godfather of its newest and largest ship, the Disney Adventure. The announcement was made in Singapore ahead of the ship’s inaugural voyage scheduled for next month from the city-state.
Josh D’Amaro, president of Disney Experiences and future CEO of The Walt Disney Company, stated, “Our new ship continues the Disney Cruise Line tradition of bringing great stories to life at sea, and we are honored that Robert Downey Jr., who has guided audiences through unforgettable Marvel narratives, is the official godfather of the Disney Adventure.”
Robert Downey Jr. is a central figure in the Marvel universe, having portrayed Tony Stark/Iron Man, a role that significantly contributed to the rise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the most lucrative film franchise in history. His tenure in this role concluded with Avengers: Endgame, which grossed over $2.79 billion worldwide. Downey Jr. was named a Disney Legend in 2019 and is set to portray Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release on December 18.
In his statement, Downey Jr. expressed his honor in being the godfather of the Disney Adventure, stating, “It is impossible to describe the majesty of the Adventure, and being its godfather is an honor. As the largest ship in the Disney fleet, a gigantic blessing must be bestowed upon it… I will do my best.”
In related news, the cruise industry has faced disruptions due to severe winter storms affecting travel routes. Reports indicate that several major ships, including the Carnival Pride and Odyssey of the Seas, have had to adjust their itineraries due to adverse weather conditions. This has impacted hundreds of thousands of travelers, with some cruises being cut short or extended.
