gas prices — CA news
Gas prices have lowered across Newfoundland and Labrador for the first time since late February, with significant reductions in diesel and furnace oil prices as well.

Gas prices have lowered across Newfoundland and Labrador for the first time since late February, bringing a much-needed relief to residents. On March 25, 2026, the Public Utilities Board announced a decrease of 10 cents per litre for gasoline, with maximum prices now ranging between $1.82 and $1.98 per litre in Newfoundland.

In Labrador, the maximum prices for gas have adjusted to between $1.60 and $1.93 per litre. Diesel prices also saw a significant drop, decreasing by almost 22 cents per litre in Newfoundland and 21.5 cents per litre in Labrador West and Churchill Falls. The new maximum prices for diesel in Newfoundland are now between $2.35 and $2.48 per litre, while in Labrador, they range from $1.75 to $2.48 per litre.

Additionally, furnace oil prices have decreased by just over 19 cents per litre, and stove oil prices have dropped by over 18.6 cents per litre in Labrador West and Churchill Falls. This marks a significant shift as residents have been feeling the strain of rising energy costs.

Terry O’Neill, a local resident, expressed the community’s concerns, stating, “It’s got to be a strain on just about everybody.” He noted that many residents are demanding greater transparency from the Public Utilities Board regarding price fluctuations, saying, “A lot of them are saying, you know, enough is enough, right? They’re sort of demanding that the Public Utilities Board or the government step in and stop this ridiculous instability.”

Historically, gas prices had not decreased since February 20, 2026, leading to growing frustration among consumers. O’Neill further explained, “When [an increase] happens, there’s a snowballing effect. Everything else increases,” highlighting the broader impact of fuel prices on daily life.

As the community adjusts to these new prices, observers are hopeful that this trend will continue, providing some relief to families and businesses alike. However, details remain unconfirmed regarding future price adjustments and the potential for further decreases in the coming weeks.
