On Monday afternoon, Calgary’s Mayor Jeromy Farkas will meet with city officials to discuss upcoming water restrictions set to take effect next week, as well as provide an update on the repairs to the Bearspaw South Feeder Main.
Mayor Farkas Discusses Water Restrictions
The municipality has declared that the feeder main will require a shutdown for a month, beginning Monday, March 9, to enable city workers to conduct repair operations on nine sections of the pipeline along 16 Avenue Northwest close to Sarcee Trail.
The closure will require residents of Calgary to limit their water usage as the Bearspaw Feeder Main, which typically provides around 60 percent of the city’s water supply, is temporarily unavailable.

Bearspaw Feeder Main Repairs
This year, during the repairs of the feeder main, residents of Calgary consistently fell short of the city’s goals for lowering water usage.
The municipality revealed its intentions for repair efforts following the detection of several new “wire snaps” along the feeder main, which Farkas has labeled as “terminally ill” and in urgent need of replacement.
