What Happened
Scattered lake effect snow continues this evening east of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, affecting traditional snowbelt communities. Reports indicate that localized bursts of heavier snow are causing reduced visibility. However, this activity is expected to weaken and shift offshore before the Thursday morning commute, minimizing impacts on school transportation.
Why It Matters
For the majority of Southern Ontario, school transportation disruptions should be minimal by daybreak. Nevertheless, there remains a possibility of surprise cancellations, particularly in the Bruce Peninsula under the Bluewater District School Board, where a 25 percent chance of bus cancellations has been assigned due to potential lingering snow squalls. Other areas, including those under the Avon Maitland District School Board and the Simcoe County District School Board, are unlikely to see cancellations.
What’s Next
Residents are advised to plan for extra travel time and consider public transit as snow-clearing operations are underway in Toronto. Warming centres are currently open to assist those affected by the weather. Meanwhile, in Cape Cod, widespread power outages and hazardous road conditions have led to multiple school closures, with some schools serving as shelters for residents without power. Restoration efforts are ongoing, but full power restoration may not occur until Friday night.
