is it a snow day today — CA news
Severe winter weather has resulted in widespread closures across P.E.I. Schools and services are affected as residents await lighter snowfall later this week.

Significant Snowfall Leads to Widespread Closures

Delays and closures have been reported across Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) as a result of significant snowfall, strong winds, and blowing snow that impacted the region overnight. Weather-related disruptions began on Monday afternoon as the storm intensified.

Environment Canada issued yellow weather warnings for the province, including a snowfall warning for Kings County and winter storm warnings for Prince and Queens counties. These alerts were lifted shortly after 10 a.m. on Monday, as the storm began to subside.

Impact on Schools and Services

As a result of the severe weather, all French and English schools in P.E.I. are closed for the day. Additionally, Island Montessori Academy in Stratford and Cornwall, as well as all campuses of Holland College, are also closed. The University of Prince Edward Island’s Charlottetown and St. Peter’s Bay campuses are closed, although the AVC Veterinary Teaching Hospital remains open for emergencies.

The Community Supports Program is not operating today, and Health P.E.I. has provided updates on delays and closures through its health storm centre page.

Looking Ahead

According to CBC meteorologist Tina Simpkin, winds are expected to gradually decrease throughout the afternoon as snowfall tapers off. A lighter weather system is anticipated to bring light snow to the Island on Wednesday evening into Thursday, but it is not expected to be as severe as the recent storm.

Residents are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and any further announcements regarding school and service closures.
