Recent developments in British Columbia's office sector include new spaces for clean energy and tech firms, emphasizing community and business growth.

“We primarily designed this as a community space as well as a development space,” said Iain Ross, reflecting on the vision behind Relic Entertainment’s new office in Vancouver. The studio, which occupies a 14,000-square-foot space on the fifth floor of a modern building in Mount Pleasant, aims to foster collaboration and creativity among its team members.

Relic Entertainment, known for its innovative video games, relocated to this contemporary office in 2019. The design, crafted in collaboration with Dialog Design, includes a notable 4,000-square-foot rooftop patio, providing a unique environment for employees to unwind and engage with one another outside of traditional workspaces.

In a parallel development, Cylad has recently opened a new office in Toronto, marking its second Canadian location after its initial establishment in Montreal in 2019. Alexandre van den Berg, a representative from Cylad, emphasized the strategic importance of this move, stating, “Toronto is a global business hub with a strong industrial ecosystem.” This new office aims to support existing clients while accelerating business development in Canada’s pharmaceutical and energy sectors.

Cylad’s expansion reflects its growth trajectory since entering the Canadian market four years ago. The company now boasts more than 150 staff members and 22 partners across 11 offices in multiple countries, highlighting its commitment to expanding its footprint in North America.

Both Relic Entertainment and Cylad are part of a broader trend in British Columbia’s office sector, which is increasingly focused on clean energy and technology. The Clean Energy and Major Projects Office (CEMPO) serves as a pivotal point of contact for proponents looking to bring clean energy projects to the region. The former BC Hydrogen Office is now housed within CEMPO, which aims to accelerate the development of B.C.’s hydrogen sector.

The establishment of these offices not only signifies growth for the companies involved but also indicates a shift in the business landscape of British Columbia. As more organizations prioritize community-oriented designs and sustainable practices, the office sector is evolving to meet the needs of modern businesses and their employees.

Looking ahead, the continued development of clean energy projects and the expansion of tech firms like Relic Entertainment and Cylad are expected to play a significant role in shaping the future of the office environment in British Columbia. As these companies grow and adapt, they will likely influence the broader economic landscape of the region.
