Power Outages in Fraser Valley
A powerful windstorm has knocked out power to thousands of homes in the eastern Fraser Valley, particularly affecting areas such as Chilliwack, Agassiz, and Harrison. Reports indicate that strong winds have led to significant outages across the region.
As of 9:16 p.m. on March 11, 2026, over 1,100 customers in Cultus Lake were without power. Concurrently, lights were flickering repeatedly at homes throughout Chilliwack, according to multiple social media reports.
By 10:10 p.m., an outage in Agassiz was affecting just under 1,100 people. The situation worsened as a further 1,700 customers in Harrison Hot Springs and along Highway 9 lost power after a tree fell across the wires.
BC Hydro reported at least 36 outages in Chilliwack affecting more than 8,200 customers at 10 p.m. This included a significant outage south of Vedder Mountain Road, which involved 1,140 customers.
In Abbotsford, four outages were reported, impacting 1,369 customers without power as of 10:25 p.m. Meanwhile, more than 1,800 customers in the Agassiz-Harrison area were also affected due to the high winds.
Environment Canada had issued a yellow weather warning for wind earlier in the day, predicting gusts of up to 90 km/h. They advised residents to secure loose objects and continue monitoring alerts and forecasts.
The ongoing outages highlight the vulnerability of the region to severe weather events. As crews work to restore power, residents are advised to stay informed about the situation.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full extent of the damage and the estimated time for power restoration. Residents are encouraged to check local updates for the latest information.
