UNC Asheville Women’s Golf Triumphs

“Our team has been decimated by the flu, so to win by 18 strokes with only four healthy players available is really next level,” said Ross Cash, head coach of the UNC Asheville women’s golf team, reflecting on their remarkable performance at the Low Country Intercollegiate held in Hilton Head, S.C.

The Bulldogs clinched the title with a total score of 901 (+37), showcasing their resilience and skill despite facing significant challenges. This victory marks UNC Asheville’s first tournament win since 2019, a significant milestone for the program.

Caroline Patterson led the team, earning individual medalist honors with an impressive score of 217 (+1). Her performance was pivotal in securing the championship, as she was the only player to finish under par throughout the tournament.

In addition to Patterson’s achievement, Lauren Madson finished tied for fourth place with a score of 224 (+8), further contributing to the team’s success. Breanna Hoese and Jordyn Arts also made notable contributions, finishing tied in 15th place at 230 (+14).

The Bulldogs demonstrated exceptional teamwork, shooting rounds of 304, 301, and 296, the latter being the only sub-300 round recorded in the tournament. This performance underscores the potential of the team moving forward.

Cash’s first victory as head coach at UNC Asheville is a testament to his leadership and the hard work of the athletes. The team faced adversity but emerged victorious, showcasing their determination and skill.

Looking ahead, UNC Asheville will return to the course on March 23-24 for the Pinetree Women’s Collegiate, where they will aim to build on this success and continue their upward trajectory in the season.

This victory not only boosts the morale of the team but also sets a positive tone for future competitions. The Bulldogs have proven their capability to compete at a high level, even under challenging circumstances.
