This closure is attributed to the warm weather that has characterized recent days, with Ward 3 councillor Renaldo Agostino noting, “The warm weather is one thing, but, the sunshine is absolutely detrimental.”
On Tuesday evening, Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for Windsor and southern Ontario, warning of significant rainfall expected to begin shortly. Rainfall amounts are projected to be between 20 mm and 40 mm as the weather system moves through the area.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority has also issued a watershed conditions statement due to the potential for ponding from the anticipated rainfall. The ground, already saturated or frozen, will have little ability to absorb this rainfall, according to Environment Canada.
For today, the forecast indicates a 60 percent chance of showers or drizzle, with a risk of thunderstorms developing in the afternoon and evening. Tonight, temperatures are expected to drop to a low of 8 degrees Celsius, maintaining the chance of showers.
