What Happened
General Motors is set to launch the fifth-generation Chevrolet Silverado 1500 as a 2027 model year truck, with a full reveal anticipated during the 2026 calendar year. This redesign introduces updated styling, a new interior, and a sixth-generation Small Block V8 engine, along with a plug-in hybrid powertrain option for the first time.
Why It Matters
The 2027 Silverado 1500 represents a significant update to GM’s best-selling truck, featuring an improved version of the existing T1 platform, now referred to as T1-2. This modification aims to enhance ride quality, towing capability, and fuel efficiency. Notably, the new Small Block V8 engine is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 10 percent compared to current models. This engine will be produced at GM’s Flint Engine Plant in Michigan, which has received a $579 million investment to support its development.
What’s Next
In addition to the new powertrain options, the Silverado’s interior will receive a comprehensive refresh, incorporating GM’s latest infotainment system. Spy photos have shown test mules of the Silverado 1500, still camouflaged, indicating that development is well underway. As the launch approaches, more details are expected to emerge, including specifications and pricing.
