An orange alert has been issued by Environnement Canada for several regions in Quebec due to expected freezing rain, which is anticipated to begin around 4 AM on Wednesday, March 10, 2026. According to forecasts, up to 30 millimeters of freezing rain could accumulate over a 24-hour period, with the most critical conditions expected between 4 AM and 3 PM on Wednesday. Wind gusts are also expected to reach between 45 to 60 km/h, particularly affecting the Outaouais and Montreal regions.
In Gatineau, the forecast predicts 10 to 20 millimeters of freezing rain, while some areas may experience even higher amounts, ranging from 20 to 30 millimeters. Additionally, significant snowfall of up to 20 centimeters is anticipated in Saguenay and Bas-Saint-Laurent, further complicating travel and safety conditions.
Environnement Canada has warned that this freezing rain event could last up to 24 hours, potentially paralyzing services across the affected regions. Residents are advised to prepare an emergency kit for at least 72 hours, as the freezing rain may lead to widespread power outages.
