What does the recent incident on the Lakeshore West line mean for GO Transit commuters? The service has been halted following a fatality involving a train, significantly impacting travel for hundreds of passengers.
The tragic event occurred when a person was struck by a GO Train between Long Branch GO and Port Credit GO stations. Approximately 500 to 600 people were on board the train at the time of the incident, which has led to a complete suspension of train movement in the area until a thorough investigation is conducted.
According to GO Transit, “Trains cannot move through the area until a full investigation is completed.” This disruption has prompted service modifications, with trains still operating between Long Branch and Union Station, as well as between Port Credit GO and stations west, up to Niagara.
In response to the halted train services, bus shuttles will be running between Port Credit and Long Branch stations to accommodate affected commuters. GO Transit has warned that there will be significant delays, modifications, and possible cancellations as a result of this incident.
Adding to the complications, planned construction is also taking place on the Lakeshore West corridor as part of GO Expansion. Metrolinx has stated, “This work can only be carried out safely during modified train service windows,” indicating that the ongoing construction will further affect service availability.
Peel Regional Police were called to the scene at approximately 2:45 p.m. to investigate the incident. The full details regarding the circumstances surrounding the fatality remain unconfirmed.
As commuters navigate this disruption, they are advised to stay updated on service changes and alternative transportation options. The Lakeshore West Line is also scheduled for track work from March 21 to March 22, which will further impact service.
With the investigation ongoing and the potential for further service interruptions, many commuters are left uncertain about their travel plans in the coming days.
