heavy snow — CA news
Heavy snow has caused significant disruptions, including the collapse of the Sudbury Indoor Tennis Centre dome and hazardous travel conditions in multiple areas.

Heavy snow has wreaked havoc across the region, resulting in the collapse of the Sudbury Indoor Tennis Centre dome and creating hazardous travel conditions in several areas. The storm, which began late Sunday evening and continued into Monday, dumped a staggering 42 cm of snow, leading to significant structural failures.

In addition to the tennis facility, the Lancer Dome outside Lasalle Secondary School also succumbed to the weight of the snow. The Sudbury Indoor Tennis Centre, which serves approximately 400 people weekly, is now closed indefinitely while damage assessments are conducted. Richard Bulbring noted, “I can’t confirm, but it does look like there’s a possible tear” in the dome.

The heavy snowfall has also prompted the city of Salmon Arm to postpone its spring street sweeping program, with officials stating that the seasonal task will resume once weather conditions improve. Local authorities are grappling with the aftermath of the storm, as they work to clear roads and ensure safety.

Snow squalls are further complicating the situation, particularly in Stratford, St. Marys, and Listowel, where travel conditions have become extremely hazardous. Local snowfall amounts of 20 to 30 cm are expected in areas affected by these squalls, accompanied by winds gusting to 50 km/h off Lake Huron. Authorities have warned that “travel will likely be extremely hazardous” as conditions remain treacherous.

As the storm subsides, conditions are expected to slowly improve beginning late this afternoon. However, details regarding the extent of the damage to the tennis dome remain unconfirmed, leaving the community in anticipation of further updates.
