OC Transpo's Line 1 remains closed east of uOttawa station due to damage from freezing rain, with R1 replacement buses in operation.

Service Disruption on Line 1

“Transpo anticipates Line 1 service between Tunney’s and Blair stations will be restored by the afternoon commute,” said Troy Charter, a representative from OC Transpo.

Currently, Line 1 remains closed east of uOttawa station due to damage caused by freezing rain. This disruption has prompted the operation of R1 replacement buses between Lyon and Blair stations, while trains continue to run between uOttawa and Tunney’s Pasture.

The repairs to the overhead catenary system, which have been a recurring issue for the LRT network in previous years, are expected to be completed by Thursday afternoon. Electrical arcing was reported on trains between Hurdman and Lees stations, indicating further complications related to the weather conditions.

In addition to the ongoing repairs, service on Line 1 has been reduced since January due to a wheel problem that was detected earlier this year. OC Transpo staff will be present at key stations to assist customers during their trips.

As of the start of the day, approximately 11,900 Hydro-Québec clients were without power, a number that decreased to 5,000 by noon. This situation highlights the broader impact of the freezing rain storm on the region.

“Focus is now on recovering from the freezing rain storm and preparing for tomorrow’s transit service,” Charter added, indicating that the agency is prioritizing restoration efforts.

With the weather-related challenges, OC Transpo is working diligently to ensure that service disruptions are minimized and that customers are supported during this period.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact timeline for full service restoration, but updates are expected as repairs progress.
